Suspect in custody after shooting at Detroit Coney Island kills 3

A deadly shooting late Sunday in A. Eagle’s Coney Island on Dexter near Joy Road in Detroit, which killed three men and critically injured a fourth, was among the latest violent crime in the city over the weekend.
Detroit Police Sgt. Nicole Kirkwood said Monday a suspect was in custody, but she offered no additional details about him – or the victims. She also did not offer a motive for the slayings, saying only it was still being investigated.
Last month, Detroit Police Chief James Craig announced there had been an increase in violent crime in Detroit, most likely a result of the pandemic and stay-at-home order that has stressed people out and recent protests.
In one weekend alone, there were 18 shootings that killed four and injured 25 others.
The Coney Island incident occurred at about 11 p.m., police said. Authorities are asking anyone with information to help by calling ‪313-596-2260 or Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK UP.
In another Sunday shooting, this one at 12:30 a.m. on the 19100 block of Evergreen, police also are seeking help to find a 63-year-old man identified as the shooting suspect.
In that incident, police said, the suspect and a 47-year-old woman were fighting, when a 58-year-old man intervened. The suspect left, but he came back with a gun and pointed it at the other man, police said.
There was a struggle, police said, and the suspect shot the victim and left in a blue, Chevrolet Malibu with an 82nd Airborne bumper sticker. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was in serious condition.
